Our mission and vision

We want to end the suffering of animals in factory farming, and we want to do it consistently. That’s why we started at the bottom: with the businesses and institutions involved in the food system that cause unacceptable suffering on a large scale.

What is our vision? A world free of intensive animal farming.

The importance of diversity

We are a unique and diverse team that values inclusion in all its forms. We have a strong commitment to equal opportunities. Therefore, we appreciate all individuals who apply to our positions and consider each of them equally for the different available roles. In this way, we build a team and an organization that embraces diversity. Why do you think our coffee breaks are so entertaining?

We believe in a world where every voice matters and where all talents have the opportunity to shine. We envision a future where each person can unleash their full potential.

Our values

We don’t just look out for animals but also for people. We want you to feel good, whatever your relationship with the Animal Welfare Observatory, and we make an effort to achieve it.

And we don’t give in. Never. Ever. And so far, that has meant we’ve improved the lives of over 126 million animals (probably many more by the time you read this).

Cool things about working at the Animal Welfare Observatory

We are constantly creating internal policies that enhance working conditions, performance and team well-being. Although we love having common hours (for meetings and good communication) we’re flexible and place great importance on work-life balance.

We work remotely, but we do as much as we can to meet up in person.

Of course, you have the right to time off for illness or if you don’t feel well. But we also extend this right to the people or animals you are responsible for. And, if you suffer from period pains, you can take a few hours off or the entire day if needed, paid, of course (and no, you don’t have to get a doctor’s note).

That’s just to give you an idea. You’ll find a lot more information in each offer.

What is our selection process?

Our selection process has four stages:

  • Application with CV: we want to know your skills and previous experience.
  • We want to know about you! We’ll ask for a cover letter in English (if Spanish is not your first language, in which case you should write in Spanish). Briefly explain your interest in working in an organization like the Animal Welfare Observatory, how you identify with our values and how you want to help us achieve our vision.
  • Technical interview: here, we speak about your academic and professional career and your skills.
  • Practical case: this is when you will meet the people who lead the area in order to develop your ideas for a specific case or situation.

Note: In positions where necessary, an additional case study or activity will be included to assess the suitability of the candidates.

“A profession that allows you to have a positive influence on farm and wild animals can be gratifying and satisfactory.”
