We get businesses to eliminate their worst production practices, we generate changes in current laws to benefit farmed animals, we raise social awareness about the unacceptability of animal suffering and, most importantly: we deliver results. That’s us in a nutshell, but if you carry on reading, you’ll see that challenges are our thing.
You have probably already reached this conclusion, but we’ll confess it to you anyway: we have a real obsession with results. So much so that we’ve optimized everything that can be optimized to ensure that the number of animals benefiting increases significantly every time.
We tell the truth. That's it. If the things we publish didn't happen, there wouldn't be images to share, right? As the Animal Welfare Observatory (AWO), we find it crucial to reveal what happens in the food industry and on factory farms, and to denounce anything that goes against the well-being of animals, sustainability, and food security.
We work tirelessly to influence policies and regulations on animal welfare. Our main allies are the latest data and scientific research. We’ve achieved changes in national legislation, like the Spanish Royal Decree on video monitoring in slaughterhouses, we’ve taken factory farms to court (and won), and we get places that use horrible practices on animals closed down.
And when we say 'collaborate,' we mean 'negotiate.' We make them see the benefits of respecting animal welfare and set out their responsibility to animals, the planet, and consumers. No one can resist our charms.
Up to here, everything has been relatively normal. Here is where the good bit starts. As you already know, our goal is to revolutionize animal welfare and ban archaic practices in factory farming. So, after much research, we decided to make the most effective and unconventional decision: to work for the most forgotten animals in the food system. Yes, that's right. Laying hens, broiler chickens, and fish: the animals that almost no one empathized with (until now).
Bars were never our thing. With our initiative 'Cage-Free Eggs,' we collaborate with the major players in the poultry farming, distribution, and food service sectors to reach agreements that ensure hens no longer know what cages are.
Chicken is the most produced and consumed land animal. That’s why we demand producers, supermarkets, and other food businesses adopt European Chicken Commitment (ECC) standards. We want animal welfare to be a priority within the poultry sector.
Fish, the forgotten animals. We have taken to the seas, or rather to the fish farms, to ensure truly sustainable aquaculture that takes animal welfare into account. Did you know that the majority of fish are still slaughtered without pre-stunning? Millions of fish die from slow asphyxiation. HORRIFIC.
Here you can see some of the things we’ve achieved through perseverance (because that’s our middle name). Click on the “More info” button to discover some completely unexpected facts and figures. Sometimes we have to check them several times because even we don’t believe them. We are generating large-scale impact on the food system and society. And why not say it? We’re bursting with pride and satisfaction.
